How VeriBark Works

Dogs are always communicating.

Through their voices, ears, eyes, posture, tails, and tiny signals we often miss, they’re constantly sharing how they feel and how they’re experiencing the world. The problem isn’t that dogs are unclear. It’s that most of us were never taught how to read all of those signals together!

That’s where VeriBark comes in.

VeriBark is an AI-powered, educational tool designed to help humans observe and understand dog communication more clearly. When you upload a video, VeriBark analyzes well-established audio and visual behavioral cues that have been studied, documented, and taught for decades. This includes a carefully selected mix of signals such as facial expressions, posture and movement, and situational context that together help build a clearer picture of what a dog may be expressing.

VeriBark compares what it sees and hears in your video to established scientific frameworks developed by veterinarians, animal behaviorists, and researchers, including gold-standard canine ethograms and standardized behavioral assessment models.

In simple terms, it works like a very patient expert watching your video frame by frame. The difference is speed and consistency. What might take a human hours to analyze carefully, VeriBark can do in seconds, without missing subtle signals or getting distracted.

Importantly, VeriBark doesn’t just give you a label. It explains why a certain interpretation was suggested, pointing out the signals it noticed and how those signals are commonly understood in canine behavior science. Over time, many users find they start recognizing these cues themselves, even without the app!

VeriBark is an educational and informational tool. It’s designed to support curiosity, empathy, and better observation, not to replace professional judgment. VeriBark is not intended to replace veterinarians or professional trainers, does not offer medical advice or guaranteed certainty, and should be used as a supportive, educational tool rather than a judge of safety or risk. Dogs are individuals, and behavior is always shaped by context, history, and environment. VeriBark offers insights, not absolutes.

VeriBark is still in its early stages. We’re learning alongside our users, improving our models, and expanding our understanding of dog communication every day.

As more people choose to share videos, our long-term research goal is to train our AI model to better understand patterns in canine communication, including signals that may be difficult for humans to notice on their own. Any future discoveries will be approached carefully and responsibly, as research, not assumptions.
